What’s my writing process? I’m steady when it comes to my writing time. This is a typical morning:
Up at 6:30 a.m.
Coffee.
Sit or stand at desk, depending on lower back’s opinion.
Open online notebook and current novel draft to make it official before dilly-dallying.
Check email & headlines. Weather.
Review notes to determine focus. If I’m writing, this will be the next part of the plot. I usually write at least a full chapter in a session, sometimes more, working from a detailed outline. Later, this chapter may be rearranged, broken up, deleted altogether. If I’m editing, I pick whatever area needs the most work.
Play Wordle. I have four magic starter words that I use almost every time, allowing me to solve it in the fifth attempt. Usually.
Add seed to the driveway so the birds will hop by while I write. I’m currently watching two bluejays, a sparrow and a female house finch.
Begin work.
Take one meal break around 10. It’s always old-fashioned oatmeal with berries, grapes and beans. Yes, beans, usually black. Lots of coffee.
Wind up around noon, sometimes satisfied with work well done, and focus on other activities.
